Busy and Exciting Week!

We have a busy and very exciting week ahead!!!

Thursday, February 2nd - Groundhog’s Day
Friday, February 3rd- 100th Day!

Please have your child send in a small Ziploc bag of 100 edible goodies (pretzels, marshmallows, etc…) by Thursday. These items will help us celebrate our 100th day of school!

Our learning goals will remain the same for math this week; however, we will begin place value lessons on Friday.

Students will be able to:
1. Estimate and measure the length of objects using non-standard with standard units laid end-to-end.
2. Use standard units to estimate and measure.
3. Use objects to display data in bar graphs or pictographs.
4. Math fact practice.

Our language arts goals will include review of skills introduced during the past two weeks.

Students will be able to:
1. Draw conclusions and retell the plot of a story.
2. Read and spell works with the bossy r (r-controlled) er, ir, ar, or, ore & ur.
3. Read words that have contractions ‘s, ‘ve & ‘re.
4. Read words that have inflected endings –ed & -ing.
5. Use verbs in writing.
6. Understand and use Voice in writing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION- There have been cases of head lice reported at Hedges last week. Please be sure to check your child’s head and remind him/her not to share hats.

This Week

We are looking forward to another busy 4 day week! Please be sure to send in your child's Flat Stanley address so we can begin sending them next week.

4. Show mastery of identifying and drawing the hour and 1/2 hour.
5. Recognize the quarter hour.

1. Identify and show understanding of the plot of a story.
2. Spell and read words ending in ed and ing.
3. Read r-controlled (ar) words.
4. Use past tense verbs in writing.
5. Recognize and use Word Choice in writing.

A Full Week of First Grade Fun


We are looking forward to a full week of school!

* Each first grade student will take the DIBELS Reading Assessment on Wednesday. Please be sure your child eats a healthy breakfast and gets plenty of sleep.

* We will also walk to the public library this week at 1:50. Please be sure your child returns his/her library book to the Public Library.

Happy New Year!!!

We are so excited to start 2012 with all of you! We hope you had an wonderful break! This week we will be reviewing the literacy learning goals from December and beginning a new measurement math unit.

Literacy Learning Goals:

Students will be able to:
1. Identify the plot of the story.
2. Know how to read long vowel e and long vowel i words spelled with a y. Know how to read final ng, nk sounds.
3. Learn and understand compound words.
4. Continue to go through the editing process to write a story that includes a topic sentence and three detail sentences.
