What is happening in first grade??

We hope you had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving vacation! Please remember with the colder weather, students need to have an extra pair of shoes to wear in the classroom. Also, packing an extra pair of socks is helpful. Many students do not have an extra pair of PE shoes at school, please be sure to have a pair at school or to pack shoes in your child’s backpack on PE days.

**Three different books or reading sheets come home each week. Please be sure your child reads these stories to practice fluency and comprehension.

This week our learning goals are:
Literacy
1. Comprehend similarities and differences within a story.
2. Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words and two-syllable words.
3. Know final –e represents long vowel sounds.
4. Write sentence that compares and contrasts characters.

Math
1. Demonstrate correct counting within frames and arrows.
2. Use concrete models, including objects and number lines to represent addition and subtraction situations.
3. Practice writing and telling time to the ½ hour.

Don’t forget to practice IXL first grade skills at home! You can go through our website or the following link-https://www.ixl.com/signin/kalispell
