Students will be able to
1. Identify the value and the name of a penny and nickel.
2. Tell time to the hour drawing hands and writing the analog time.
3. Count mixed coins with nickels and pennies and write the total value.
4. Know that another name for an addition sentence is number model.
Language Arts Goals for the week:
Students will be able to
1. Read and write words that include the digraph sh/th and the vowel sound in “all”.
2. Identify a noun in a sentence that is read in a story and identify a noun in their own writing.
3. Identify and retell the main idea in a story.
4. Write a topic sentence and a detail sentence.

Happy October!
Time is flying and first grade is a great place to be!! This week we have more exciting things to learn! Below are our Learning Goals for this week!
Students will be able to:
1. Add numbers below the sum of 10. It is a first grade standard to add and subtract through 20. Please be sure you help your child practice math facts each night.
2. Exchange 5 pennies for a nickel and understand that 5 pennies is the same value as 1 nickel.
3. Read and write words with short vowel u and consonant blends.
4. Write a question sentence with the appropriate spacing, capital letters and punctuation.
5. Write a complete telling sentence with an additional detail sentence.

What is happing in First Grade?
Weekly Purple Folders: On the calendar, please be sure that you log your child's reading minutes each evening and total the minutes on Friday. Also, the key word list should remain in the folder. This helps us to circle the words your child needs to work on and star the lists that have been mastered.
PE Shoes: Please be sure your child has a separate pair of PE shoes that stay at school.
Field Trip: First grade is going to the Apple Barrel on October 17th or October 19th.

Students will be dismissed at 1:25 on Wednesday, September 21st.
We look forward to seeing you and your child on Thursday, September 22nd for our Parent Open House!! Our time is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:00pm. Please let your child's teacher know if you are unable to attend.

As we enter our 4th week of school there is so much exciting knowledge to gain!!

Weekly purple folders will begin to come home this week. Please be sure to write the minutes your child reads to you each evening on the correct date. Raz-kids reading and decodable books can be included in minutes read.

Reminders

- Bring a healthy snack for the morning and afternoon
- Bring lunch money for your school account or a cold lunch
- Return: Emergency forms, library card application and website/field trip permission slips
- PLEASE be sure to bring your PE shoes to leave at school
